Cookies & Tracking
Short version: browse this site and nothing is stored that identifies you. The only things saved without asking are needed to make the site work at all.
What we store
| Name | Purpose | Needs consent? | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
dw_consent | Remembers the choice you make below, so we stop asking. Stored in your browser’s local storage, not a cookie, and never sent to us. | No — it only exists to record your answer | Until you clear it |
dw_session, dw_landed | A random number your browser keeps for one visit, so that reading three pages counts as one visit rather than three. It is not linked to your name, email or IP, is never sent to anyone else, and cannot recognise you if you come back later. Stored in session storage, not a cookie. | No — it identifies a visit, not a person | Until you close the tab |
dw_curtain | Set only if you enter the pre-launch passphrase, so you don’t have to re-enter it. Contains no personal information. | No — strictly necessary | 30 days |
sb-…-auth-token | Keeps a signed-in Dream Wild administrator signed in. Only ever set on /admin, and only after signing in. | No — strictly necessary | Until sign-out |
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics. Distinguishes one browser from another so Google can report visits and traffic sources. Set by Google, not by us. | Yes — nothing loads unless you accept | Up to 2 years |
That is the complete list. There is no advertising network on this site, no remarketing pixel, no social tracking script, and nothing is sold or shared with data brokers.
How we count visits without tracking you
We keep our own record of things like which lodge pages get opened and which booking buttons get clicked. It sets no cookie and stores no IP address. So that reading three pages counts as one visit rather than three, your browser holds a random number for the length of that visit — it is listed in the table above, it is cleared when you close the tab, and it cannot recognise you if you come back. We also record the country, province and city your connection reports, which is roughly what a weather site sees, whether you are on a phone or a computer, and — if you followed a link here — the name of the website you came from. Never the page you were on, only the site.
None of it is linked to your name, your email or anything you type, and none of it is sold or shared. It counts visits rather than people, which is why it needs no consent and keeps working whichever choice you make.
Google Analytics is the opposite: it identifies a browser in order to report unique visitors. That is the difference the choice below controls.
Change your mind
— you can switch at any time, and declining later stops Google loading on your next page view. You can also clear cookies for this site in your browser, which resets everything here.
